Iberville Parish is uniquely situated to offer not only primary school education options, but also post high school job training and easy access to the state’s largest and most prestigious university, Louisiana State University, just 15 miles away in Baton Rouge.

The 6,000 students of Iberville are lucky to have some of the finest school facilities and equipment in the state. And, Iberville residents have shown a strong commitment to education by passing a tax to make Iberville teachers among the highest paid in the state, thus enabling the system to attract the best teachers.

The parish’s public school system includes eight schools and one alternative school. It has an enrollment of about 4,000 students. The schools include Crescent Elementary and Junior High School (K-8) in Plaquemine, Dorseyville Elementary School (Pre-K-8) in White Castle, East Iberville Elementary and High School (Pre-K-12) in St. Gabriel, E.J. Gay Middle School (5-8) in Plaquemine, Iberville Elementary School (Pre-K-4) in Plaquemine, Plaquemine Senior High School (9-12) in Plaquemine, North Iberville Elementary & High School (Pre-K-12) in Rosedale, White Castle High School  (7-12) in White Castle, and the Iberville Optional Education Center in Plaquemine. PAROCHIAL SCHOOL: Iberville has one private school: St. John the Evangelist Catholic Elementary, Middle School and High School, which has an enrollment of approximately 750 students. It is operated by the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge in conjunction with the local Catholic church, St. John the Evangelist. Call 225-687-0629 for information on the school. www.stjohnschool.org

OPTIONS FOR TROUBLED STUDENTS: The Louisiana National Guard operates its Youth ChalleNGe Program in east Iberville. This program intervenes in the lives of at-risk 16 to 18-year-olds, providing discipline and learning in a structured environment. TECHNICAL TRAINING & COMMUNITY COLLEGES: Technical and job training is also available at the La. Technical College-Westside Campus in Plaquemine. A part of the Louisiana Community and Technical College system, Westside provides training for a variety of careers including medical, computer, electromechanical technology, industrial maintenance, pipefitter fabrication, process technology, sheetmetal apprenticeship, shipfitter fabrication, automotive technology, and other specialized courses. One of the state’s most impressive community colleges, Baton Rouge Community College, is an easy and short ride from Iberville. This college offers courses in many subject areas, and its course credits transfer to other state colleges. For more information, check out the website at www.lctcs.state.la.us. A variety of specialty training programs are located within 30 miles of Iberville, including Our Lady of the Lake College (medical and nursing) and others.

HIGHER EDUCATION: Higher educational opportunities are as close as Louisiana State University or Southern University in Baton Rouge.  LSU is the state’s largest university, with an  enrollment  of some  30,000  students.
